Default Ecto Drop Rates

It is commonly believed that the ecto drop rate is 4% from an aaxte and 2% from a smite crawler, although im not sure wether these figures change from NM to HM

I was also curious about the drop rates for terrorweb dryders and banished ghost riders If anyone could post some factual data about ectos from any monster, this would be very helpful as i intend to create a tombs solo sin (so i dont have to pay 1k because im poor) to eventually get FoW armour

i believe wiki should probably have something on ecto drop rates already, you may be best off looking there

also with uw it isnt like you need 20k in storage to continuously pay entry fee...just get 1k, do a run and assuming you dont screw up using an id kit on all your drops will probably get you close to 1k to go again, drop your ectos into storage then rinse and repeat

Specifically

If you want ecto, my advice would be to make a solo smite run char, don't solo tombs. Heck, go ursan-happy and do uw clears.

my experience says that Terrorwebs drop about the same as smites. (i've seen one from each over the past 10 runs, before that never seen webs or smites drop and ecto)

i just figured out how my wife and my 600 smite duo can take the 18 terrorwebs in the ice reaper's quest (perpetual spellbreaker and perpetual SoA rock). i'm going to be making that run quite often from now on and will have more info on Terrorwebs in numbers soon...

overall, we generally get all the aatxes that we can because most of the ectos we've collected have dropped from them... (i think 12 of the 14 we've gotten over 10 runs have come from aatxes...) all done in NM.

i think that mindblades drop ectos more than smites and terrorwebs, but i've only been to the chaos wastes once (successfully) and that wasn't in a duo...

would love to learn how to clear UW in a duo, but i don't SS necro well, and my wife's necro is nowhere near ready...

Idea.

We set up a thread on guru which remains open for 1 week. Each person will get ONE post in the thread. They then re-edit their post over and over after any smite runs they do, listing how many they did, and how many ecto's they got. We can work out an average number of smites to spawn quite easily, and I think a week of maybe 100 people posting would give a faaaairly rough average. I don't personally agree with the 2% statistic...I think it's higher, and the only way we could test it would be through observation

I'm down for this too, but does it have to be a solo run....I suppose a duo (i.e. smite/600) would somewhat skew the numbers cuz we wouldn't know what the bald monkey (or whoever smites for you) would be taking

Perhaps we could base it on an assumption constant for the smiter and go from there?

I remember we calculated chances of ecto dropping. I remember I calculated and it seemed pretty true to me. Check http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...100360&page=20 post nr 395.

Also, I saw around page 14 alot more ppl were (trying to) calculating chances. However one needs to remember there is a difference between expectation (40 smites * 0.02 is an expectation) and real chance. Of course we had to make assumptions, but 40 smites seemed reliable, and without your (good btw) idea to make such a thread, the 2% chance seemed pretty accurate.

Seems realistic, might do some solo smite runs with either a famine ranger or earth ele and ill post some drops after a couple o runs

i think its lower..which is why its probably 2%. some get a higher number, some get a lower number and overall it evens out to be about 2%

all my recent ecto's have come from aataxes, not smites. in fact, havent seen a smite drop an ecto since my last 55/SS run, and that was before factions got released I believe...so no AV and no RH. back when ecto's were worth more than double what they are now

my wife and i 600 smited it today and she got 4 ecto drops, 3 from Aatxes and one from a terrorweb. i got one from a mindblade specter in the chaos wastes. had to run and grab it before dying cause i messed up spellbreaker chain...

went in with a hero tonight and first aatxe dropped an ecto for me.

have only seen a smite drop one ever, but i know other people who get most of their ectos from smites...

we were planning on charting our runs to see if there is any pattern, so i'll help out in any thread that gets started.

In my personal experience, which is nowhere near large enough to be "statistically" correct:

Mindblade Spectres > Aatxes = Terrorwebs > Smites

How i Loathe you......-.-

Anyway i have started doing solo Smite runs on my dervish in the underworld, and out of about 20 runs i have not had a single ectoplasm dropping from a smite crawler, or anything for that matter, which makes me wonder, all you people who say "OH LOOK AT ME I USE MY W/Rt AND GET 2-3 ECTOS PER RUN!" either you are incredibly lucky or you are liars or i just have really bad luck.

i too am wondering if its worth trying in hard mode for ectos or if ill get the exact same result. I have attached the build i am using (if the computer likes me and will let me CURSE YOU VISTA)and was wondering if killing them all at once (scythe wise) decreases my chances of an ectoplasm.

i too am all for a thread dedicated to observing ecto drop rates.
Thanks in Advance

I think i got lucky on my drops, When i did Smite runs on my w/rt it was like this
30 runs = 0 ectos
31th run = 4 ectos
After that i started getting 3-5 ectos average, but after more couple of runs ectos stopped dropping

I had to do 10 e/mes runs to finally have ectos dropping.

If you are after ectos, gather 20 ectos and start powertrading.

Paul - i seem to observe theres "2" types of people that do Uw , 1st set is solo farmers other set is "team" farmers.
We see the people state they got "X" ectos in so many runs but sadly we dont know if its solo or team.
Solo runners are in a way disadvantaged - their target is smites and the 2% chance where team farmers who kill anything that moves have the higher chances - eg 2% + 4% + x% + x% etc.
Also i think hm or nm may have something to do with it as well - i cant say.
One way would be to state if in team and how many in team and how far got - eg did dryders and mindblades and also time taken , then we can compare an average of solo runs with time and ectos multiplied to match an avg team run.
I`ll hazard a guess on average either there will be a slight difference but not by a huge amount.
